Name: Light Yagami ( 夜神 月 )
Fandom: Death Note
Timeline: Just before L's Death, episode 25
Age: 18
Appearance: Light is a typical Japanese Highschool student. He has light hair, for a Japanese native, a sort of medium brown, and consistently dresses in a school uniform consisting of a collared shirt, tie and jacket. He is usually fastidious about his appearance, always seeming well dressed and perfectly groomed with a near-obsessive attention to detail that has served him well as Kira. He wears a watch on one hand at all times, and has chocolate-brown eyes that seem red when he is planning something particularly murderous.
Abilities: As an ordinary human, Light doesn't have any superpowers or special abilities. He is, however a genius, logistically and otherwise. He's also an athlete, with a few unimportant junior championships, with some skill at martial arts.
Personality: Light Yagami is altruistic, generally well meaning and very conceited. In short, he's a sociopath who sees himself as both above and better than other people, which absolves him of guilt, when he kills them via the Death Note. He can easily see the motives of others, and is more like L than he realizes. It is worth noting that when not under the influence of Death Note that he becomes much more honest, an entirely honest justice-minded.
History: Light Yagami was a brilliant high school honors student, and the ordinary son of an ordinary police chief when he came across the Death Note laying the grass on his school campus. Naturally curious about this odd object, he took it for a prank when he read the inside cover, which revealed that any human who's name was written within would die. After a whirlwind of experimental murders, he quickly found out the exact parameters of this murder device, and all the numerous little rules involved. Aling with the death Note comes a sarcastic partnership with 'Ryuk,' a God of Death to whom the Notebook properly belongs. He continues on to "punish the wicked" by killing off criminals, usually those convicted of violent crimes, by preference. This earns him a cult following, and he is nicknamed "Kira" by the anonymous masses. The series of seemingly miraculous deaths caught the attention of a brilliant young international detective known only as "L." An eccentric and obsessive-compulsive young man, L seems to come from a mysterious, moneyed past...And, after a few careful opening maneuvers, consisting of several murders and a clever series of information manipulations, they both were able to identify each other as their primary enemy. At this point the stage is set, the ruthless investigations of the well-connected L against the equally tenacious mind of Light Yagami, and his mystical killing method. Added to the mix was one Misa Amane, a young pop-star on the rise, with a Death Note of her own, who became enamored with Light both as himself and in his capacity as Kira. What ensued after that can only be described as an epic battle of wits between Altruistic Evil and Unbending Justice, with all the world as their playing field.
Although he was never able to prove it, L seemed aware of every move Light made, and Misa, as his accomplice, subsequently acting to thwart it. At that point, Light came up with a brilliant, if convoluted, plan. Using the rules of Death Note ownership, a property that erases the memory of a Death Note from a human who no longer possesses it, Light allowed himself and Mise to be taken into custody. Jailed for over a month, during that time he gave up the Death Note, and all memories concerned with it. Unable to fathom his new-found sincerity, coupled with the resuming deaths at the hand of a 'kira' chosen by Misa's original Shinigami, L is forced to release them from their captivity. Despite this, he still cannot clear their names, or else refuses to, and Light finds himself in residence and close observation with L, known often as "Ryuuzaki." Although he has still not regained his memories as the original Kira, he continues to have a strong interest in the case, and bends his considerable intellect to the problem of catching him, along with L. Indeed, at several intervals, L comments that Light is as capable, or more-so than he is, while still testing him for some quality that would identify him conclusively as Kira. At this point, they are on the trait of the substitute kira. When they catch him, Light takes propriety of the Death Note and regains his memories...and in short order has again manipulated things into his favor. Soon after this, it becomes apparant that the only way to keep Misa Amane from death is to kill L, something Light as Kira is unable to accomplish. However, Misa's God of Death, Rem, who loves her, sees that this was what Light planned all along. Indeed, it is the only way to secure the girl's safety, and either Light or her innocence. It as at this point in the story that I have taken Light.
Roleplay Sample - Log: Slick hair, straighten tie, and don't forget to smile. They would never suspect a thing of the prim, stylish Light he found in the mirror. Never. not ever. Not even L, who probably knew already, or suspected. Still, he wouldn't kill his friend himself. He'd leave that to the Shinigami, Misa's Shinigami. It was almost a pity, that. He'd come to think of 'Ryuuzaki' as a friend, or at the very least a rival. Before he'd met Ryuk, and by extension L, the days had been long and mundane — pointless. Even now, trapped in this place, it was better than lazing away at school, and watching the potential of the world rot off its bones. He would become a God...and not even this consortium could stop him.
With that thought to warm him, Light turned the knob and stepped out into the facility.
Let us see what they thought of him.
Roleplay Sample - Journal: I don't know what you're planning Ryuuzaki, but if you don't get off my back, I swear you're not going to like my response. I mean, even now, you act as if I'm Kira. You have no proof, no power, and besides, isn't our current situation a little more important than finding that kind of justice right now? Talk about your priorities...
